Catalog Full Description
The Bachelor of Arts in Social Work program (BASW) prepares students for professional generalist social work practice. It equips students with core skills and values for beginning-level professional social work practice in urban settings with individuals, families, groups, organizations, communities, and populations at risk. Upon completing the BASW degree, students will have developed marketable skills in critical thinking, ethical principles, applying theoretical perspectives, and oral and written communication skills. Obtaining a BASW degree will also make students eligible to sit for the Texas State Board of Social Work Examiners Licensing Exam. After obtaining a BASW degree, graduates can work in areas such as child welfare, family services, case management, skilled nursing centers, hospice care, community mental health, substance abuse treatment, and many other areas.
