Teacher Education and AdminUgrd INITIAL Teacher Crt.CRT - Teacher Certificate

This recommended course sequence does not constitute an official degree plan, but rather serves as a tool for 4-year degree planning with an academic advisor. Copies of an official degree audit and transcripts are also useful documents for degree planning. Given UNT Dallas allows students to register in courses for multiple terms within the academic year, this document also supports multi-term course scheduling. Students should always confirm their course selections with an academic advisor to avoid taking unnecessary repeated courses and/or courses that do not meet financial assistance requirements. In addition to the courses listed here, all program and general university requirements must be met to earn the degree or credential. See Requirements for more information not represented in this recommended course sequence.

This plan assumes that TSI College Readiness requirements have been met in all subjects. All prerequisites must be met for course enrollment. Refer to the Undergraduate Catalog for TSI requirements and course descriptions for all course prerequisites.

Even if summer courses are not listed or recommended, students can use the summer sessions to take courses to continue progress to degree attainment.

School of Education Candidacy, Early Field Placement & Clinical Teaching

At the beginning of Year 3, students should apply for Candidacy (admission into Teacher Education). Deadlines to apply each semester: November 1, April 1, or July 15th. Students should be using study tools, including practice exams (scores of 85% or better is required on the practice exams), to prepare for certification exams. Begin taking real certification exams in December.

Candidacy requires 60 credit hours, where at least 12 credit hours were earned at UNTD. Eligible applicants with 60 credits, that do not have an earned 12 credit hours at UNTD should still apply but will receive notification at the start of the following semester.

In Year 3, students should also apply for Early Field Placement Semester. Deadline to apply each semester: October 15 or April 1. All certification exams must be passed before guaranteed a spot in Early Field Placement courses. See the Clinical Teaching website at https: www.untdallas.edu for more information.

At the beginning of Year 4, students should apply for Clinical Teaching. See the and the Teacher Education Program handbook at https: www.untdallas.edu for more information. Clinical Teaching is full-time student teaching. Students cannot take other courses during this term without the written permission of the Teacher Education Program Committee.
